The Phrase...

..Running in Heels symbolizes the idea that life is harder as a female. Taken literally, heels are a shoe meant to make women feel taller to be the height of men while simultaneously slowing them down. Taken conceptually, Running in Heels represents the notion that our society has institutionalized micro-instances of sexism. The short story that I wrote about the Tampon Tax captures this idea. Tampons are a health hygiene product necessary for women to control a period, yet they are still taxed in an overwhelming majority of states even though other items (like chapstick, anti-dandruff shampoo and sometimes even Viagra) are not.

Other examples (or short story topics) could include the pay gap, the word "bossy" and the media coverage of female political candidates. These are all instances where being a female in any given situation is harder than male; more challenges arise and there is an expectation you must prove yourself beyond ways men must.
